Lighting Kitemark™ schemes

We have all the facilities to evaluate emergency luminaires and lighting and their critical components. We assess and award the BSI Kitemark to luminaires, emergency lighting, central power supply systems and general luminaire control gear. The most commonly used standards in this field are:

• BS EN 60598 series (Luminaires – Safety)
• BS EN 60598-2-22 (Emergency Luminaires)
• BS EN 50171 (Central Power Supply Systems for Emergency Luminaires)
• BS EN 62034 (Automatic Test Systems for Emergency Luminaires)
• BS EN 61347 series (Lighting Control Gear)
• BS EN 62031 (LED Modules for Lighting)
• BS EN 62471 (Photobiological Safety of Lamps)

With this third-party endorsement, you’ll be able to enhance your reputation, stand out from competitors, attract new customers and gain access to new markets.

If you are an installer, the BSI Kitemark for installation, maintenance and design of emergency lighting systems will help your business stand out and show you are serious about quality and safety. The certification scheme is built in a modular format which covers design, installation, inspection, testing and maintenance. Once you have successfully gained certification, you will also be registered with BAFE on the SP-203-4 scheme.

The BSI Kitemark for commercial lighting covers a wide range of products including LEDs. Any of the following can achieve the BSI Kitemark:

• Floodlights
• Street luminaires
• Recessed office lights
• Standard lighting for commercial buildings

The Kitemark for commercial lighting helps manufacturers to access new markets, accelerate product testing times, reduce risk, improve ‘time to market’ for new products and achieve competitive advantage through safety and performance testing.

In addition to the BSI Kitemark™, we offer a range of services that enable lighting manufacturers to ensure that their products comply with legislation, reduce risk and innovate in new markets.

The IECEE CB Scheme is the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)’s system for conformity testing and certification of electrotechnical equipment and components. The system is based on mutual recognition of Certification Body Test Certificates by IEC members.

The scheme means that once an electrotechnical product has been tested and certified by one Certification Body, it does not need to be tested by another.

BSI is an approved testing and certification body for UAE Civil Defence for the provision of certificates of conformity (CoC) which is mandated throughout the Emirates.

BSI is currently approved for emergency lighting, among other categories of product (specific standards are listed on the Civil Defence site).

As well as testing your products for Kitemark™ or third-party product conformity to enable required certification marks, we can provide testing services before and after you receive you certification, or even when no standard already exists.

If you’re in the process of getting new product to market, we can help verify your innovation, and get your products to where you want them to be more quickly.

Where no relevant standard exists, verification can provide independent confirmation that a product meets high levels of performance.

If you have self-declared a product, we can review all the technical information including test data, technical files and reports, and issue a verification certificate.
