Encompassing products that are for indoor, domestic use only, this Kitemark certification is based on compliance with two core standards; BS EN 14465 and BS 2543 to the General Domestic performance level. Upholstery Fabric used for furniture must be tested to Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 as amended or comply with local regulations.
There are three main parts to the assessment:
- Factory control process – BSI’s expert auditors will assess your main offices and a risk-based sample of where the textile is produced, this includes the facilities of supply chain partners if outsourcing is utilized.
- Product testing – each unique fabric is independently tested for its strength, resistance, colour fastness and to ensure it meets Fire regulations for the market it is placed in.
- Technical review – BSI will review the technical files, test reports and test certificates to validate that your products have successfully met the requirements of the scheme in accredited test laboratories.
