Employing over 3 million people, the built environment sector is one of the largest in the UK economy. With a diverse range of skills, education, experiences, and behaviours it is no wonder that different parts of the built environment may use different terms to describe the same concepts. As such, the sector can be seen as being divided by a common language.
In this article, we discuss the effects of this division and inconsistent use of terminology and take a look at how BSI's series of standards can help mitigate these ambiguities.
