The CAV safety benchmarking report was supported by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) and developed with Reed Mobility, ADA, PKSInsights and WMG, University of Warwick. It explores approaches to assessing the safety performance of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) that would be considered acceptable both in terms of overall safety and from the perspective of other road users.
The report also proposes a potential route to CAV safety benchmarks using a new “digital commentary driving” technique. This new technique involves the continuous collection of data from a CAV on its perceptions, decisions, reactions and feedback whilst driving.
