Acquisition of Atrium expands BSI environmental, health, safety and advisory services footprint to the US East Coast
15 August 2016
BSI, the business standards company, has acquired Reston, Virginia-based Atrium Environmental Health and Safety Services LLC to expand its environmental health and safety (EHS) Services and Solutions footprint to the US East Coast. The 25 employee Atrium team will become an operating subsidiary of BSI’s Professional Services business and will function under the name, “Atrium Environmental, Health and Safety Services – a BSI Professional Services company”.
Atrium provides a full range of on-site and project based occupational safety, industrial hygiene and environmental compliance services to clients in the pharmaceutical, facilities management, government and shipbuilding sectors in the National Capital region (Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC). This acquisition will provide a first East Coast location to complement BSI’s January 2015 acquisitions of EORM on the West Coast, and Hill Country Environmental in Texas, now called BSI EHS Services and Solutions. The Atrium acquisition also reinforces BSI as the authority in Operational Resilience in the EHS sector having been the originator of the internationally recognized standards for Environmental Management (ISO 14001) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001).
"Our rapid expansion in the US EHS Services and Solutions market is greatly enhanced by the addition of Atrium’s highly-regarded expert team of EHS professionals on the East coast," states Glenn Fishler, President of EHS Services & Solutions at BSI. "As a specialist in the provision of EHS Consulting and Services in the form of on-site services, industrial hygiene, safety and environmental regulatory advice, and EHS training, the Atrium team strengthens BSI’s ability to help clients embed excellence and foster improved EHS performance."
Dan Chute, President at Atrium states: “I am so excited for our clients and employees. Becoming part of BSI’s EHS Services and Solutions team will give our clients and employees access to over 200 additional world class EHS consultants from BSI’s EHS Services and Solutions team, plus the services of over 3,500 BSI employees worldwide. This will result in an enhanced business experience for our customers and employees. The collaborative and customer excellence culture at BSI is a great strategic fit for Atrium and we’re looking forward to delivering our ambition of being BSI’S first EHS acquisition on the East Coast”.
BSI Americas President, Todd VanderVen observes: "Atrium is an exciting addition to BSI's rapidly expanding EHS Services and Solutions division. Their extensive EHS knowledge and experience of delivering the highest quality service complements our existing advisory and assurance businesses. This delivers on our strategic objective of becoming the leading provider of EHS advisory services in the US and in the long-term, internationally.
“Operational Resilience is a crucial element of overall Organizational Resilience, allowing business leaders to adapt and grow within an increasingly environmentally and safety conscious world. Atrium’s world-class EHS consultancy complements BSI’s wider offer and will help further unlock excellence for our clients worldwide.”
Howard Kerr, Chief Executive at BSI concludes on BSI’s acquisition strategy: “Over the past decade BSI has grown our client base organically, increased our global footprint and expanded our portfolio offering to match today’s business needs. Operational Resilience is one of our core strategic domains - along with Supply Chain Resilience and Information Resilience - and this acquisition reinforces our commitment to our overall approach of encouraging Organizational Resilience across our clients. To ensure we remain a resilient organization – one that is agile, adaptive, robust and competitive - we have even greater ambitions for growth which will include further quality acquisitions like Atrium.”
