Partnership Announcement: BSI and Smart Cities Network Join Forces

Singapore, 15 April 2024 – The British Standards Institution (BSI) and Smart Cities Network (SCN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 5, 2024 with the aim to advance standards and certifications for smart and sustainable cities.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards creating awareness of standards and certifications for sustainable cities and communities. By leveraging BSI’s expertise and Smart City Kitemark Certification, the partnership aims to build capabilities and capacities to support cities in their transition toward becoming Smart and Sustainable Cities.

A Joint Task Force has been established between SCN and BSI Singapore to drive this initiative, reinforcing their shared commitment to promoting sustainability and resilience in urban environments. The partnership also underscores BSI's dedication to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.

Kok-Chin Tay, Chairman of Smart Cities Network, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, "The partnership with BSI via this MOU is a testament of our collective support to introduce standards for smart and sustainable cities. It will strengthen the business case for cities to increase their branding globally and more importantly, attract investments for their projects."

Miranda Chen, Country Manager of BSI Group Singapore, highlighted BSI's commitment to leading the conversation on Smart Cities, stating, "BSI's partnership with SCN underscores our commitment to leading the conversation on Smart Cities across Singapore and the region. By aligning with SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, we aim to drive collaborative solutions addressing societal challenges, including the advancement of smart cities and communities."

Through this partnership, SCN and BSI Singapore aim to transform the way people live and work, particularly through the development of smart, sustainable cities. By recognizing the rise and need for such cities within the Built Environment sector and their shared focus on SDGs, both organizations are poised to drive best practices and promote sustainability on an ASEAN level.
