What are the National Highway Sector Schemes (NHSS)?

The National Highway Sector Schemes (NHSS) are put in place to ensure organizations working on roads have a trained and competent workforce. By meeting an industry benchmark, organizations can demonstrate that all their processes are planned and meet continually improving standards.

They are based on a similar framework to on the world’s most popular management system standard ISO 9001 with some additional requirements for highways.

If your organization provides services to Highways England under the Specification for Highways works then you must be certified through a UKAS accredited Certification Body. BSI has the experience and expertise to enable you to achieve this.

There are numerous schemes that fall under the NHSS however they come under four main categories:

Road surfacing and marking
