With the growth in the use of AI systems, the need to demonstrate how organizations use these technologies responsibly, ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the worlds first AI management system. By implementing and maintaining suitable controls, organizations are able to demonstrate this responsible use in an effective manner, taking into consideration the role they play in the AI system life cycle.
ISO/IEC 42001 annex A and annex B provide controls and guidelines to help organizations select, implement and manage controls, taking into account their risk environment. It contains 9 security control clauses, which cover 38 controls. These controls are intended to be applicable to all organizations and represent a minimum ‘starting point’, i.e. additional controls and guidelines can be added as required. The standard supports the concepts and framework specified in ISO/IEC 42001.
