Many organizations today are faced with the dilemma of meeting market demands that are varied, erratic, unpredictable and with short lead-times. The large-batch-long-run economies-of-scale approach to manufacturing is no longer suitable for market demands that are increasingly high-mix-low-volume with very short lead-times.
For a long time, organizations were limited by large-batch-long-run schedules owing to long equipment and/or line set-ups and long changeover times. Then, in a breakthrough publication called 'A Revolution in Manufacturing: The SMED System', Shigeo Shingo showed the West a technique whereby changeovers could be reduced to below 10 minutes on most equipment. He called the technique SMED - 'Single Minute Exchange of Die'.
This training course will provide you with the practical knowledge to reduce changeover time and enhance your organization’s flexibility and responsiveness to meet customers’ demands.
