The digitization of health data and the need for Digital Trust in HealthTech

The digitization of health data brings significant benefits for patients, clinicians and society including personalized healthcare, remote monitoring, enhanced collaboration among healthcare teams, better decision-making, medical research advancements and data-driven policymaking. However, the rise in highly valuable health data has also made it a prime target for cybercrime globally.

In a recent McKinsey report, it was found that consumers now consider trust and data protection to be almost as important as quality and price when making purchasing decisions. In the realm of digital healthcare, where transparency in the handling of personal health data is crucial, maintaining security and privacy has become even more important. The management of personal health information (PHI) in a digital ecosystem is a complex task that necessitates comprehensive risk management. This should not only focus on technical controls, such as anonymizing consumers' private health data but also on implementing effective governance measures to safeguard individuals from potential harm.

The potential repercussions for patients are far more severe when something goes wrong with their PHI compared to the compromise of email addresses or phone numbers. Dealing with a compromised phone number or email address is relatively easy but dealing with compromised medical history or potentially DNA data is not. In our three-part masterclass webinar series, we’ll delve into the ecosystem through which PHI flows, examining the various stakeholders involved. We’ll look to explore the available tools and techniques to ensure the security, privacy, and trustworthiness of PHI for clinicians' decision-making processes, as well as how to establish and maintain trust among health consumers when making healthcare choices to enhance their quality of life.
