Dan Rossiter MCIAT - Sector-lead, British Standards Institution (BSI)

As part of his role within the British Standards Institution (BSI), Chartered Architectural Technologist Dan Rossiter provides subject matter expertise, thought leadership, and sector engagement around the digital transformation of the built environment. In addition, beyond his role at BSI, Dan has been actively supporting the construction industry locally, nationally, and internationally for several years:

Locally, Dan supports Constructing Excellence in Wales, is a councillor for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), Wales Region and co-chair of UK BIM Alliance Wales
Nationally, Dan supports Constructing Excellence, Generation for Change, the UK BIM Alliance, is a member of the CIAT council and several special interest groups as well as a contributor to national standards development within BSI and
Internationally, Dan is a supporter of buildingSMART International as well as a contributor to international standards development within CEN and ISO.

Matthew Jensen, AssocRINA, Director, Fraiserline

Matthew began his early career as a trainee Quantity Surveyor specialising in Power Generation, ME Systems, Civil Engineering and Marine projects. He undertook his further studies in Architectural design, achieving a highly commended first-class honours degree before working across the USA and London. Matthew is now the founding Director of Fraiserline Architecture, a multi-disciplinary consultancy within the Passenger Marine, DFMA and Hospitality sectors. Matthew also co-founded Paromat, a start-up to offer innovative IoT and data-capture solutions to passenger vessels.

In 2016, Matthew proudly collaborated with the project team for the new HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier, the largest and grandest warship ever commissioned by the Royal Navy, by co-delivering innovative proposals for a Royal Wardroom and Admirals Dining Quarters. The installation was then executed and completed in late 2017.

Matthew is also a featured innovation and technology writer and has contributed to Airliner World Magazine, Onboard Hospitality Magazine, AEC Magazine, Premier Hospitality, Cruise and Ferry Magazine, Premier Construction, Develop3D Magazine, Cruise Interiors Magazine, FINN Aviation Press and many more.

Furthermore, Matthew has previously delivered projects for leading Cruise and Hospitality brands including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, The Royal Navy, Noble Caledonia, British Airways, American Airlines, Hilton Hotels and Cruise Maritime Voyages.

Russ McKay - Solutions Architect, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)

Russ McKay is a Chartered Electronics Engineer employed by IBM as a European Solutions Architect and IoT Subject Matter Expert He has worked at IBM for over 23 years. Prior to working for IBM he led teams of systems engineers and manufacturing engineers at Rolls-Royce Aerospace.

He has had many roles at IBM working with customers around the world in Product Lifecycle Management, Asset Management, Building Information Modelling, Internet of Things and Analytics.

Russ spends most of his time working on innovative, business driven solutions - normally implemented quickly, and delivering a fast return on investment, integrating asset life-cycle management, internet of things and BIM / PLM technologies

Steve Nesbitt - Technical Lead - Construction Innovation Hub at MTC, Manufacturing Technology Centre

Chief Technologist, Technology Strategy at the Manufacturing Technology Centre. Responsible for leading and coordinating the Manufacturing Technology Centre’s activities within the Construction Innovation Hub. With over 32 years of engineering and programmes experience within manufacturing industries, ranging from continuous improvement through research and development, from manufacturing and process engineering to leading product development functions in numerous original equipment manufacturers, supply chain entities and consultancies.

Simon Hart - Head of Construction, Innovate UK

Simon is Head of Construction at Innovate UK on the £170m Transforming Construction ISCF programme and Management Officer for the Government’s Digital Built Britain programme. He helped establish the Centre for Digital Built Britain at Cambridge University. Simon is part of the Government’s MMC working group and an active contributor to the Construction Leadership Council.

Simon’s career spans Consultancy, Business Development and Engineering, across Manufacturing and Technology sectors. Prior to joining Innovate UK, Simon led the Connectivity Practice within an Engineering Consultancy and spent 10 years in Automotive industry delivering engineering programmes for clients.
He is a regular speaker on the London tech scene with a passion for IoT, Digital Construction and Smart Home technology.

Kean Walmsley - Software Architect, Autodesk Research

Kean Walmsley is a Software Architect working on projects that integrate IoT data with BIM (sometimes called Digital Twins) via the Forge platform, as well as working on Generative Design in the AEC space. He has worked in various roles – and in various countries – during his career at Autodesk, including building and managing teams of software developers in Europe, the Americas and Asia/Pacific. Kean engages regularly with Autodesk’s developer and computational design communities, providing technical content and insights into technology evolution.

Maria Mamoura - Director, Creative Technologies - Bryden Wood

Maria Mamoura is a Director in ‘Creative Technologies’ team at Bryden Wood and is an architect by background with a specialism in computational design

‘Creative Technologies’ is a computational team of architects and engineers, specialised in new technologies and algorithmic methodologies to design radical solutions. Across the team we combine different strands of patterns, algorithms, connections and interactions and build DfMA focused configuration and design automation software using a wide range of digital technologies.

Our approach is about making the process not only faster, but also smarter – it is an intelligent automated process that allows us to iterate faster and gain greater, data-driven insights, to enable evidence-based decision making.

Maria leads the algorithmic work in ‘Creative Technologies’ and develops scalable algorithmic tools that use procedural, parametric and generative design methods for design automation applicable to both social and economic infrastructure projects.

Karen Alford - Flood and Coast Risk Manager, The Environment Agency

Karen leads the Environment Agency’s Asset Management digital transformation within the asset management directorate across the whole asset lifecycle. She has been instrumental in driving forward a data centric approach including procurement and validation of data through BIM, improving data standards, increasing the availability and access of data internally and externally. A professional accountant, most of her career has been spent in IT services and the asset management sector.

Karen is involved in a number of cross industry groups including the Government’s Smart Infrastructure Working Group, Centre for Digital Built Britain ISO19650 transition Group, and the Digital Transformation Task Group, part of the ICE Client. She is also steering member of the Cambridge Centre Smart Infrastructure and Construction and a committee member BIM4 Water, ISO19650 and ISO55000 standards.

Richard Edwards - Group Technical Director, Asset Management Consulting Ltd (AMCL)

Richard is a Chartered Engineer and is the Global Technical Director of AMCL and is the technical authority for the development of products and services within AMCL.

Richard is a Past President of the Institute of Asset Management and a member of Council for the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management. He is currently the Chair of the IAM’s digital programme aimed at developing practical guidance for organsiations to exploit the opportunities of digital technologies whilst avoiding the pitfalls.

He advises a range of infrastructure owners and regulators on Asset Management and related business issues to identify the most effective ways of investing in new or existing assets to deliver the best outcomes for stakeholders.

Steve Yeomans - Head of Digital Construction, Construction Innovation Hub

Dr Yeomans is the Head of Digital Construction for BRE in the Construction Innovation Hub, and has recently been appointed as the Hub representative for CB/005 Digitalization of the Built Environment Strategy Committee, and B/555 Committee for Construction design, modelling and data exchange. Steven was also a steering group member of PAS 14191:2020 Built environment – Operation of interconnected construction data dictionaries. Steven has experience in digital construction, research, teaching, consultancy and innovation. His specialised knowledge and publications cover the application of digital ways of working, BIM, cloud-systems and information management for improved business, communication and collaboration.

Matt Crunden - Training & BIM Manager, Legrand

Matt has been working in the electrical industry for over 30 years, a little over 20 of which working for Legrand Electric Ltd where he started his career with the company in Sales and Technical based roles. After working as Legrand’s Major Projects Manager for a number of years on projects encompassing Airports to Shopping Centres and Schools to Colleges, it was Matt’s passion for learning and teaching others that enabled him, along with the forward thinking of the company, to create his current role, Training and BIM Manager, a post he has held since 2013.

Matt is responsible for developing the BIM capabilities within Legrand UK whilst also supporting the Legrand Group with their BIM objectives and drive for Digital acceleration.

Alongside his BIM related activities, Matt is also responsible for creating and delivering inhouse and client training programmes. These include the management of the companies external CPD programme from new content creation to the delivery of the CPD seminars themselves and the management of any training related content for internal staff.

He has also been recognised by the construction industry for his commitment to digital transformation throughout the sector and was inducted into the Society of Digital Engineering Hall of Fame in 2017 for which he is immensely proud. Matt is also an active member of a number of industry working groups such as CEN TC/442 supporting the creation of Standards for digital processes, the UK BIM Alliance, bsi B/555 and both CIBSE's Digital Engineering Steering Group and the Society of Digital Engineering whilst also supporting the Construction Products Association. Matt is also a STEM Ambassador supporting and engaging with young people making life and career choices.

Outside of the work environment, Matt has been involved in the Martial Arts for over 35 years and has taught traditional Lau Gar Kung Fu and other forms of self-defence to many students over the years. Whilst now retired from running classes, Matt still trains weekly. Matt is also a fully qualified chef, holding certification in traditional French cookery and Pastry.

Su Butcher - Director, Just Practising Limited

Su Butcher is director of communications consultancy Just Practising Limited.

Su trained as an architect and managed three successful architects’ practices during the ‘90s and noughties. She then set up her consultancy from home in 2011 and now supports construction companies and associations to improve their online communications.

Su chaired the working group which produced the 2018 UK BIM Alliance report ‘A fresh way forward for Product Data: State of the Nation’ addressing the challenge of how information about products is used in construction. She is currently managing a team of professionals from 36 organisations on a National Housing Federation project to help housing associations implement digital asset management, as well as serving on the editorial board of the IET’s Plain Language Guide to Product Data for construction product manufacturers.

James Blood - BIM Manager – Stephen George + Partners LLP

James Blood joined Stephen George + Partners in 2018. He has 25 years of experience within the construction industry focussing predominantly on architecture while working in a range of sectors including industrial, retail, offices, leisure, residential, education and healthcare/pharma.

He has over 10 years of practical delivery experience in BIM, including activities such as defining business strategies, structuring and defining architectural service provision and the subsequent implementation of the methodologies (processes + technologies) & systems required to support the delivery thereof, all of this being done with ISO openBIM standards as the central focus.

James was involved with the first IPI (insurance backed alliancing) project in the UK (Dudley College Advance2), and was instrumental at the strategic planning level and acted as the alliance’s BIM/Information Manager. The project was delivered in the spirit of Level 2, as defined under the Government's mandate.

He is a member of the B\555 committee, working as a nominated UK expert in Task Group 3 Working Group 2 in the CEN/TC 442 technical body, helping with standards for exchange structures for Product Data based on ISO 16739.

He also sits on the buildingSMART UK&I Chapter’s committee in the role of Business Manager and is one of two Product Room coordinators.

As a result of his role within bSUKI, James is also a member of the BIM4Health communities’ group and sits on the ‘Digital Health Research & Development sub-group.

Carl Collins - Head of Digital Engineering, CIBSE

Carl began using CAD in 1983 with the first commercial release of AutoCad with experience in Electro-Optic Instrument systems and building services, having studied and practised as a mechanical design engineer. As well as being highly conversant with document control and IT systems, Carl is an experienced user and manager of AutoDesk products, including AutoCad and Revit.

Carl was BIM Leader and Pioneer for Arup Associates and Global Content Leader for Arup for over 12 years and he has worked with various standards institutions writing the standards that support BIM in the UK and internationally.

He is now a Head of Digital Engineering at CIBSE.

Charlotte Broady - Global Head of Marketing, Built Environment, British Standards Institution (BSI)

Charlotte joined BSI in 2011 and since then has been supporting large and small organizations who contribute to the design, build, maintenance and decommission of the asset lifecycle, whether residential, commercial or infrastructure, particularly in their aspirations to become sustainable and resilient. Charlotte has been privileged to work with clients around the world in their endeavours to realize new initiatives to drive industry forward, particularly around digital transformation, as well as embedding best practice approaches around health, safety and wellbeing, environmental management and the circular economy, information resilience and effective supply chain management.

Lucas Cusack - Director of Project Delivery | UK & Europe at Willow

As Willow’s Director of Project Delivery for the UK and Europe, Lucas is responsible for the operation and execution of all digital engineering and digital twin implementation services in the region. In addition to this, Lucas spearheads business development in the pursuit of new opportunities and manages our existing customer relationships.

Lucas has almost 20 years’ experience in the application of Building Information Modelling processes and tools, having worked in Australia and the UK for architectural designers, tier 1 contractors and Europe’s largest commercial real estate company. By managing the development and application of data from design, through to construction and operation, Lucas now works with Willow’s customers to realise the potential of the data that an asset owner has access to, and captures it within Willow Twin throughout a building’s lifecycle.

David Throssell - Head of Digital Construction, Skanksa UK Ltd

David Throssell is the Head of Digital Construction for Skanska UK with responsibility for the implementation of BIM across all new projects and the Digitalisation of the company. David is a Chartered Civil Engineer with broad experience of civil and structural permanent works design. He has managed single and multiple discipline design teams and Government funded R&D data management projects. He has particular expertise in BIM standards, methods and procedures and was co author of the revised CPIC Code of Practice 'Production Information: a code of procedure for the construction industry'. He is a member of the BSI Drafting Committees for BS 1192:2017, PAS 1192-2 and ISO 19650. David is a pioneer of the use of 3D CAD to deliver real benefits. David previously worked on early BIM implementations for John Laing and later Laing O’Rourke.

Rahul Shah - Client Director for EMEA, Built environment, British Standards Institution (BSI)

Rahul Shah has worked for and with asset owners, main contractors, architects, engineers and manufacturers. With over 23 years of experience, he has held leadership roles responsible for driving digital transformation, leading on BIM strategy and implementation programmes globally. During his career Rahul has gained experience of implementing various digital initiatives on a diverse range of projects, including large scale multi-billion-pound urban regeneration schemes through to hospitals, airports, residential, commercial, data centres, mixed-use public spaces, stadiums and metros.
