Protecting our environment

As we upgrade our offices over time, we are acutely aware of the significant environmental impact and we adopt the highest relevant standards to help minimize this.  BSI is proud to hold accredited certification to ISO 14001, the world’s leading environmental management system standard for over a decade and to have achieved SKA Silver rating for sustainable fit-outs at our Headquarters, which is the highest rating given the scope of the project. 

We track our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide and account for our emissions in accordance with ISO 14064: Greenhouse 

Gas Quantification and Reporting, the GHG protocol corporate standard and UK Government guidance, to ensure that we account for significant GHG emissions within our operational control. Some activities that our offices have engaged in include:

• choosing web conferencing over travelling to meetings
• switching to more energy efficient lighting
• and the careful allocation of jobs to our auditors to minimize travel where possible

Our new Delhi office is the first BSI location to have installed a roof top solar plant in a move to reduce our environmental footprint.

BSI colleagues take part in local environmental projects such as beach clean-ups, and tree planting.  We like to partner with similar like-minded organizations when possible.  For example, in Singapore colleagues spent a day planting trees at an event organized by our business partner Ricoh.  The project formed part of an initiative to transform Singapore from a ‘Garden City’ to a ‘City in the Garden’.
