This course will provide knowledge and understanding of carbon neutrality and how to use ISO 14068-1:2023 in your organization to achieve carbon neutrality, on the pathway to Net Zero.

It is now widely accepted that human activity is contributing significantly to negative impacts on our planet. Scientists and climate experts advise that we are running out of time to resolve the issues. The 2021 report1 from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated that the 1.5°C target will be exceeded by 2040 unless emissions are slashed, and has been described as a ‘code red for humanity’. Fixing the climate change problem and securing a stable, prosperous future for the planet is a key driving force behind climate action.

The leading organizations have recognized the existential threat presented by the climate crisis, developing policies and strategies to help reduce emissions within their operations and value chain. As climate change has become recognized as a threat to the planet and human existence, there is an increasing realization and focus on a need to achieve net zero.

Carbon neutrality, which is a state of balance between carbon released into the atmosphere and the amount of carbon removed from it, is an important milestone on that pathway to net zero.

This 1-day carbon neutrality training course will help you:

    • Know and understand the key terms, definitions, and process of becoming carbon-neutral
    • Understand the relationship between carbon neutrality and associated requirements, including accurate quantification of GHG emissions and removals, reporting, and claiming neutrality, on the journey to net zero
    • Plan the activities required to achieve carbon neutrality
    • Identify when carbon offsetting is appropriate and how carbon credits work
    • Appreciate the importance of verifying/validating declarations of carbon neutrality

    How will I benefit?

    The course will help you:

    • To know and understand the evolving policy and regulatory landscape related to carbon reduction, carbon neutrality, and net zero
    • Develop a comprehensive strategy to achieve carbon neutrality, on your pathway to net zero
    • Embed GHG management and carbon neutrality into your environmental and energy management activities
    • Improve environmental and energy performance, contributing to reduced risk, carbon emissions, and associated costs
    • Enhance your sustainability credentials and improve organizational resilience
    • Support your organization and local, national, and regional endeavours to mitigate climate risks and wider social and corporate governance efforts

    How will I learn?

Our high-impact accelerated learning methodology improves knowledge retention and skill development. This course is interactive and activity-based, resulting in a deeper understanding of the content and more effective application in the workplace.

    • Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

      • Outline the key principles, requirements, terms, and guidelines of ISO 14068-1
      • Describe the relationship between ISO 14068-1 and the broader family of ISO standards addressing GHG emissions, and environmental management
      • Develop a plan to become carbon neutral: Quantification, reduction, offsetting and reporting
      • Prepare and document a carbon neutrality management plan
      • Claim and maintain carbon neutrality status
    • The pathway to Net Zero and achievement of carbon neutrality is relevant to any organization, of any size, in any sector, and in any country. Through an organization's operations and value chains, carbon neutrality is an important milestone to achieving Net Zero. All functions and levels within an organization can contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality, so knowledge and understanding of key concepts and principles across an entire organization can help develop carbon reduction plans and strategies.

Suggested job roles include those responsible for developing, implementing, and managing policies, processes and practices, leading to the achievement of carbon neutrality, such as:

      • Technical and non-technical representatives, involved in generating a relevant GHG inventory, reducing GHG emissions, implementing GHG removals, obtaining carbon offsets, and managing the appropriate documentation to confirm the organization's carbon neutrality status
      • Administrators, operatives, technicians, supervisors, managers, senior managers, functional heads, directors, and executive directors requiring knowledge and understanding of carbon neutrality
      • Those with roles/responsibilities linked directly or indirectly in support of carbon neutrality endeavours, including Environmental Managers, Energy Managers, Sustainability Managers, Corporate Social Responsibility Managers, Environmental, Social and Governance Managers, and external consultants
    • Delegates completing the course will be issued an attendance certificate. By taking and passing the optional end-of-course exam, delegates will be issued a further certificate of achievement.

ISO 14064-1 Quantification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Removals - Requirements Carbon Neutrality Management Planning Quantifying the Carbon Footprint of Products (ISO 14067:2018) Training Course.

    • On completion, you’ll be awarded an internationally recognized BSI Training Academy certificate.

    • It is strongly recommended that you have completed prior learning relating to the quantification of greenhouse gas emissions and removals, carbon management planning, and the verification of greenhouse gas emissions, before attending this course.
