    The People

    Wanda Commercial Management Group

Chinese multinational Wanda Group is executing ambitious plans for smart, healthy leisure and retail complexes with the highest sustainable standards.

In alignment with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, Wanda's ambitious vision is to become recognized as a leader in the creation of smart, sustainable cities and communities fit for the future.

    The Challenge

Wanda Group needed an independent partner to help bring their sustainable vision to life

Climate change and urbanization are putting an increasing strain on our cities and on shared spaces - but this also marks a huge opportunity to reimagine our built environments.

Given its scale and public profile, Wanda Group engages with sustainability on a profound level. It seeks to create new jobs, enrich local demand, and improve the quality of property in each new Wanda Plaza (single-complex buildings which integrate retail, leisure, hotel and residential space) it builds.

Having built over 370 Wanda Plazas already and with ambitious plans to build around six new developments every month, Wanda needs sustainable strategic thinking and working practices to be enthusiastically embraced throughout its operations.

    The Solution

Leveraging a world-leading sustainability framework and symbol of trust to drive excellence

Wanda set 'green' five-year targets, ranging from supply chain sustainability to health and well-being, and needed a trusted partner to provide independent certification at speed and scale.

Wanda Group achieved BSI Smart Cities and Communities Kitemark™ certification. This demonstrates that Wanda considers measurable sustainability criteria for every project - from governance and empowerment, through safety and security, to sustainable consumption and biodiversity.

Choosing to work with BSI was a recognition of the strength of BSI's global reputation and experience. The certification is proving invaluable in helping Wanda Group deliver healthy, natural spaces that use data to monitor and track environments.

Creating smart, sustainable cities and communities fit for the future

Efficient buildings are expected to be an investment worth $24.7 trillion across emerging market cities by 2030. For Wanda, BSI certification:
