BRCGS Packaging- BRCGS Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 5)
The BRCGS (commonly referred to as The British Retail Consortium, although BRCGS accurately stands for brand reputation compliance) Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials helps packaging organizations deliver products that help support the delivery of safe, hygienic food. By using a hazard and risk-based approach that addresses site cleanliness standards, printed packaging controls, product inspection and the control of foreign bodies, certified organizations and their customers can be confident in the resulting in the quality management system. The BRCGS Packaging Standard is the first packaging Standard in the world to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

Who should certify to BRCGS Packaging and Packaging Materials?
The standard was created to support the needs of manufacturers of packaging and packaging materials for both food and non-food applications. This includes organizations that:
- Manufacture raw materials for use in packaging
- Produce packaging materials for conversion or printing
- Supply materials from stock where additional processing or restocking occurs
- Manufacture both packaging and consumer disposable goods (e.g. paper plates)
