Dynamic guidance on the management of digital twins in the built environment
What’s happened and why?
BSI has produced a first Flex standard providing broad, general and background information for people who create, manage and use digital twins in the built environment. As a Flex standard it was developed using a rapid, agile approach, with the expectation that this version – v1.0 – is a living document that can be updated quickly, as necessary.
What does BSI Flex 260: v1.0 2022-01 cover?
It gives guidance on the general principles of a digital twin for the built environment and applies to digital twins across the life cycle of assets, systems, and processes.
It establishes the key terms, concepts, and principles related to creating, managing and using digital twins and covers discrete and connected digital twins, the principles of connecting digital twins, and the need for security mindedness and personal data protection.
Why use BSI Flex 260: v1.0 2022-01?
Digital twins in the built environment can deliver better outcomes for the economy and society by driving up commercial competitiveness and productivity, and improving quality of life and public wellbeing. This can happen because digital twins enable better insight and decisions across planning, delivery and whole-life asset management.
Specifically, BSI Flex 260 can help organizations:
- Accelerate innovation through the adoption of a common language and the alignment of stakeholder expectations
- Align their digital twin development to mitigate frictions when exchanging information between digital twins
- Establish new services to support organizations who create, manage, and use digital twins
- Develop their expertise and efficiency when using digital twins
- Access new markets
