This key piece of legislation tackles long-recognized cybersecurity and privacy vulnerabilities in consumer products that can connect to the internet or a network. If you’re a manufacturer, importer or distributor placing consumer connectable products onto the UK market, you must comply with this new legislation.
The PSTI Act is founded on the UK's Code of Practice for Consumer IoT security, the global standard ETSI EN 303 645 for consumer IoT cybersecurity, and guidance from the UK's National Cyber Security Centre. It consists of two legislative components: Part 1 of the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act 2022 and the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (Security Requirements for Relevant Connectable Products) Regulations 2023. Additionally, it incorporates advice from the UK's National Cyber Security Centre, the authority on cyber threats.
