Governments are setting targets for organizations to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, while consumers increasingly prioritize sustainability, seeking carbon-neutral products.
YouGov data (2023) shows 75% of consumers are altering their buying habits with the environment in mind, and two-thirds view brands more favourably when they reduce their carbon footprints. This highlights the importance of ensuring your products are environmentally friendly.
To help consumers trust that a product or service is genuinely carbon neutral, BSI offers the Kitemark for Carbon Neutral Products and Services. Adopted by Morrisons for their ‘Better For Our Planet’ eggs, this certification reassures consumers that a product or service has been independently assessed against international standards and meets stringent criteria.
The certification is based on two key standards, listed below, as well as a Carbon Footprint Management Plan, enabling ongoing carbon reduction.
- ISO 14067:2018: Uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to quantify carbon footprint.
- BS ISO 14068 - 1:2023: Guides on achieving net zero emissions through management practices.
