If you need to export your gas products to Australia or New Zealand then BSI can help.
You will need to take the following 4 steps:
Step 1: Understand product standards and certification
Product Certification is a process that confirms a product meets the necessary local, national or international product standards relevant to a particular market or product set. The process involves type examination of representative samples of finished product for testing by our independent and suitably accredited testing facilities.
At this stage you will need to understand which the standards which are relevant to you and the products you need to certify and test. Buy a copy of the latest version of the relevant so you are familiar with them. Copies can normally be purchased on the BSI Shop.
Once you have decided to apply for certification, we will send you a certification starter pack. This contains helpful information and tools to assist you with planning your product certification journey and to get the most out of our services.
Step 2: Get your product tested
One of the key requirements to achieve certification is to have your products tested to prove compliance with the governing standard(s). Our technical experts will devise a test program which advises you on the models of samples required and the scope of assessment against relevant standards.
Testing can be carried out in BSI’s testing centre of excellence in Loughborough UK. Alternatively, you can select the test facility of your choice, but it is essential that the test facility is properly accredited to perform the specific tests required by the standard.
Step 3: Final inspection
Once the type examination has been completed, we will review the type testing report and provide you with a formal test report review letter. This details any non-compliance with respect to certification requirements or any additional laboratory assessments that could be necessary to progress your application.
When your product passes the testing and any non-compliance has been successfully addressed we will then need to carry out a final inspection of a fully marked production sample to verify its compliance against the certified design. As part of this final inspection, we will review the correct marking of BSI Gas Safety Certification Logo, the BSI certification number and the Gas Compliance Mark (GCM).
Step 4: Certification and beyond
When your product passes the testing and final inspection it will be certified. This will enable you to distribute your product into the market. You will be issued a BSI certificate which authorizes your business to affix the BSI Gas Safety Certification Logo on your products and company literature.
To maintain your certification annual product surveillance inspections must take place. As part of these inspections you will need to give BSI access to a randomly selected current production product at a mutually agreed location. When changes are made to the product design, when new standards become applicable, or when new products are added to the range then a re-test of your product is usually necessary.
