What’s this PAS 2080 webinar about?

We’ve revised PAS 2080 on how to manage and reduce carbon in the built environment. This webinar covers the detail on the revision.

It will highlight the changes, including to general principles and components of the carbon management process; and to its application, including how to create collaborative ways of working to reduce carbon and increase value across the whole life of buildings and infrastructure.

Ant heads up the Built Environment Sector team at the National Standards Body. In addition to providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership he also oversees the identification of new areas of research, standardization and supporting product needs, via engagement with key stakeholders from across government and the wider sector. He also oversees the promotion of the standards portfolio to national and international marketplaces.

A Chartered building surveyor and engineer by background, he has more than 32 years’ experience working in the sector, having worked as both an enforcer, and for 16 years was the UK fire regulator and then head of technical policy for the English Building Regulations. Ant has considerable experience in working directly for UK government ministers and representing the UK at European Commission level on construction related discussions and negotiations.

Ant is a full member of the Government’s statutory Building Regulations Advisory Committee and is Immediate Past President of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. 

Clare is Sector Lead – Built Environment at BSI. She is a Standards professional with extensive experience in sharing Standards knowledge, managing Standards Committees and recently, working with industry and government to identify standards needs and deliver complex standards projects.

She led the standards workstream in the Each Home Counts Independent Review of energy efficiency and renewable energy where she helped to define and deliver the programme of Standards development, including the PAS 2035 framework, under the Retrofit Standards Task group. A new BSI Technical Committee for Retrofit is being established in 2020. She sits on the Green Construction Board infrastructure working group to provide input on standardization for carbon management and low carbon concrete. She is Project Lead on the Built Environment Competence Standards programme.

Chris is a civil engineer by profession and has spent the vast majority of his career planning for, designing and delivering capital programmes of work and managing large asset bases.

Chris spent his formative years at Yorkshire Water.  He joined Anglian Water as a main Board Exec Director with specific responsibility for Asset Management in 2004 and stepped down in 2018 to develop a Portfolio Career.

At Anglian Water, Chris was Chairman of @one Alliance, the collaborative venture formed to deliver the majority of AW’s capital programme.  He was Chairman of UK Water Industry Research Ltd from 2013- January 2019 and is a member of the Government’s Green Construction Board and Chairman of its Infrastructure Working Group.

Chris was President of the Institute of Asset Management 2017-2019.

Chris is an independent NED of Affinity Water.

Chris is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and of the Institute of Asset Management and a member of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management.

Chris was awarded an OBE for services to Civil Engineering and carbon reduction in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list 2017. 

Rachel is an Executive Director at WSP, where she now leads on UK ESG and government relations, having previously led its transport business. In 2020-21, she served as the 156^th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and she is a Patron of Women in Transport (a not-for-profit), having been one of its founding board members since 2005.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a chartered engineer and a chartered transport planner. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Leeds for services to transport, engineering and industry diversity and is an honorary fellow of the Society for the Environment.

Rachel was awarded a CBE for services to infrastructure in the 2022 New Year Honours list.

At present, Rachel chairs the Infrastructure Carbon workstream of the Infrastructure Client Group (ICG), the ICE’s Decarbonisation Advisory Board and served two years as an Infrastructure Commissioner for Scotland from late 2018. In 2021 she was invited to chair a new UK Department for Transport Taskforce that is focused on employment and skills.

In 2016, Rachel was listed as one of The Telegraph’s inaugural UK Top 50 Influential Women in Engineering; in 2017 she was named the Most Distinguished Winner and Best Woman Civil Engineer at the Women in Civil Engineering Awards, and in 2019 she was confirmed by the Financial Times as one of the UK’s Top 100 Women in Engineering.

Rachel has authored, scripted and hosted publications and films on topics including “Shaping Zero” about climate action for infrastructure, “Making Better Places” on place-making and future mobility, and before that about digital technology and its potential for infrastructure, industry innovation and collaboration. She is regularly invited to give keynote conference presentations and to chair international and national industry events.

Maria is Mott MacDonald’s Technical Director for Decarbonisation and is recognised as one of the world’s leading experts on carbon and infrastructure.

Maria was one of the authors of the UK Government’s Infrastructure Carbon Review, the publication that gave rise to PAS 2080. She went on to co-author the original specification in 2016, as well as this revision.

Responsible for co-ordinating the multidisciplinary skills and system-level approaches required to help clients meet their net zero ambitions, Maria has led a number of critical decarbonisation projects in the UK, Australasia, North America and the Middle East. This included the first ever use of PAS 2080 in the UAE, as well as the drafting of Water UK’s Net Zero Carbon Roadmap.

Maria is a member of the Green Construction Board in the UK, sits on the Water UK Expert Panel on Net Zero, and is a visiting lecturer on Low Carbon and Net Zero Infrastructure at Cranfield University. She is a technical advisor on net zero in several industry forums including the Institution of Civil Engineers Carbon Project.

Heleni is an Associate Director at Arup, driving Climate Action and Sustainable Development in the Infrastructure Group, London.  An enthusiastic promoter of whole life decarbonisation of Infrastructure, Heleni advances and coordinates sustainable development and whole life carbon strategies for the built environment.  She combines her deep engineering knowledge with the belief that the construction industry is key for the net zero carbon transition and contributing towards environmental regeneration, responding to the climate and biodiversity crises. 

Heleni has close links with academia and has acted as the Industrial Supervisor for several research projects. She supports and coordinates sustainable development skills and expertise, including integration of Planetary Health principles in planning and design.  She firmly believes that climate, biodiversity and environmental degradation are interlinked and solving them requires deep understanding of complex natural systems and how the built environment interacts with them.   

A member of the Green Construction Board and the Institution of Civil Engineers Carbon Project, she strives to accelerate decarbonisation in the built environment.  She is co-author of the revised PAS2080:2023 Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure.

Adrian is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Technical Director at Stantec, specialising in carbon and sustainability. In recent years he has been helping UK water companies to develop and implement strategies for carbon reduction and climate change across their capital investment programmes and make progress towards their net zero commitments. He has also led various research and pilot studies on carbon accounting, sustainable water systems, natural and social capital, climate change and resilience.

Adrian is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and is currently supporting the ICE’s Carbon Project – Toward Net Zero for Infrastructure. He chaired the Technical Advisory Panel for developing the PAS 2080 specification on carbon management in infrastructure for the UK’s Green Construction Board. Adrian is an Honorary Professor in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society at Heriot Watt University.
